From Repairing to Fabricating Instrument Parts

About Mark Nagy Instrument Repair

Mark has been repairing instruments since 1997. He started his repair career as an apprentice at Karnes Music (now Music and Arts) in the brass department. He moved to the Saxophone Shop in 1999 to focus on woodwinds. In 2002, he started working for International Music Suppliers and its sister company Music Starts Here. In 2005 the Saxophone Shop merged with International Music Suppliers to become one company. In addition to music instrument repair services, Mark is an experienced machinist. He has fabricated many parts and keys, such as missing saxophone keys and trumpet bottom valve caps. In addition to learning from many older technicians, Mark is a member of the National Association of Professional Band Repair Technicians (NAPBRIT), an organization devoted to keeping technicians up-to-date on the latest materials and tools in the industry and furthering the repair trade. Mark gave a presentation at the 2006 NAPBRIT national conference on machining custom saxophone keys.

Testimonials

“Mark Nagy’s work is synonymous with precision. He understands the difference between repairing an instrument and repairing and instrument to fully accommodate the player. His experience combined with his skill make the perfect combination. I have been taking my instruments to Mark for more than 10 years and without hesitation I recommend his work to all my colleagues. I learned the difference between exceptional repair work and average repair work the first time that Mark worked on my tenor and returned it to me feeling brand new and sounding better than ever.”

Mark Nagy is simply the best repairman I have ever used. I make the trip to Chicago to see him if I need anything! I have been to a lot of repairmen and Mark is still my favorite. The horn doesn’t leave his hands until it plays.

Mark Nagy is a consummate instrument repair technician. I have taken my instruments to him on multiple occasions and he has performed quality work each time to rectify the concern. He has a keen attention to detail and is very reasonable. As a performer himself he understands the needs of the working musician. I would highly recommend his dependable services to any instrumentalists in need of repairs or overhauling.
